Nurrydog (of Monterrey, Mexico) returns with his sophomore album VIENTOS, on Discos Peligrosa. A collaboration with a cross section of artists spanning the western hemisphere, the release guides listeners deep into a world of diverse and inclusive musical exploration. VIENTOS is raucous and dance-floor ready, telling an intermittently mellifluous and sweet melancholic story, pitting folk-style instrumentation against the cold and abrasive production of bass-heavy electronic sounds. With these six tracks, Nurrydog again challenges the paradigms of established genres, as he‘s known to.
On Wachas a la Distancia, Nurrydog teams up with Amambay 100 000, the Argentinian producer and self-proclaimed “organic neon roots producer and instrumentalist,” to forge a psychedelic cumbia. Báilame Cerquita, a collaborative dance track with Chihuahuan folk singer Dromedarios Mágicos, takes a sad minor progression and drives it with electronic marimba, a crowd of toms, white noise, and vocal tones, creating a landscape of quiet intimacy and boisterous incitement. With Los Angeles artists ADY, Dip and Unwind code switches both lyrically and musically through inflections of modern afrobeat percussion. In Ven Damelo, scratchy vocals, bright accordions, and a muffled moombahton beat push the track to an excitable drop. Excalibur brings a baile funk-inspired energy to a world club banger featuring rapper Zeale and turntablist Dj Ethos, both from Los Angeles. VIENTOS closes with Otra Vez, an anthem for Monterrey featuring singer FЯE, who blasts an addictive chorus to reverberate through the mountains of Nuevo León.
Nurrydog shaped his new album to ignite the imagination of listeners as it unveils his unique ability to create without boundaries, borders, or inhibitions. VIENTOS releases March 1st on Discos Peligrosa.

If you love cumbia, if you love surf, if you love psychedelia, then there's a better than 90% chance you will love chicha, also known as "Peruvian cumbia". This very modestly priced album by an incredible Argentine ensemble is an excellent--and infectious--introduction to those new to either cumbia and/or chicha, and an essential purchase for fans of any of the genre i name-dropped in this review.
